Cars breaking down is something that happens all the time and all across the country. There are, quite literally, a thousand different reasons why your car in particular might have broken down and the chances of you figuring it out by yourself are slim. However, that doesn't mean that you should do nothing—there are a few steps you should take in the event your car does have a breakdown to ensure you get out of the situation quickly. Here are three things you can do to be prepared in the event your car breaks down and you want out of the situation fast.
Get To Safety
The first and most important thing you need to do when your car breaks down is to make your car as safe as physically possible. If you are on a highway, you need to safely pull over to the shoulder or the furthest lane on your right you can. If you are on a smaller road, simply pulling off to the side and parking will suffice. Always put your hazard lights on, and if you are on the shoulder of the highway, you should get out of your car and wait even further away from it so if someone does hit it accidentally you will not be hit. Always try to make your car as visible as possible to other motorists without putting yourself in danger either.
Know Who To Call
There are many auto towing services out there, all of which will do a great job to get you out of this situation as fast as possible. If your insurance offers you free auto towing services, then you should have that number either in your car somewhere or saved in your phone. Otherwise, find auto towing services in your neighborhood, pick the closest or best reviewed one and use that instead. If you are going on a road trip out of town, then find a national towing company or one in the town you are visiting.
The most important thing to remember is that it is just a car, and as long as you and your passengers are safe, the problem can be overcome. Don't try to fix the car in the middle of the road, or do anything else as outlandish as that. Emergency situations can make people do crazy things, but safety should always come first and that means waiting for an auto towing service to get you out of this dangerous position and help get you to someone who can fix your car far quicker than you could.
